The key ideaRetaking the test without changing your preparation gives the same result. The 20-day wait is exactly the length of a plan focused on a single test.
What the rules say
France Éducation international allows you to sit TCF Canada as many times as you wish, with a 20-day wait between two sittings. Every sitting includes all four mandatory tests.
Results are available within 15 working days of the session materials being received, and the certificate is valid for two years. Factor these delays in if your file has a deadline.
Read your certificate as a diagnosis
Your certificate gives one result per test. Convert each into a CLB level and compare it with your goal: in most cases a single test, sometimes two, separates you from the level you need.
That test is where your 20 days should go. Carrying on revising everything equally means repeating the preparation that fell short.
A 20-day plan for one test
Split the wait into three stretches, with a light maintenance load on the other tests so you keep what you have.
- Days 1 to 7: one response or one set a day on the weak test, corrected the same day
- Days 8 to 15: real conditions, the clock, and systematic review of recurring mistakes
- Days 16 to 19: one full simulation of all four tests, then light review
- Day 20: active rest and logistics
Should you register again right away?
Only if your practice results already show the target level consistently. Decide to register on three successful simulations in a row, not on the hope of a better day.
Session dates depend on accredited centres: contact yours to learn the next availability before you set your plan.

- I know which test separates me from my goal.
- I have a 20-day plan centred on that test.
